Two collections, over 50 anthologies worldwide, and a body of short fiction that runs from the gentle to the decidedly not.

Called to Coddiwomple

A memoir in poetry and prose

Ginninderra Press · 2023 · Paperback · 84 pages · ISBN 9781761095528

Called to Coddiwomple follows Colleen through memories of family and country South Australia to the beginning of her nomadic life in her campervan, Trevor.

It moves between memory and the present tense of travel: family, country childhoods, ageing, change, self-discovery, and the particular clarity that arrives when you have sold most of what you own and pointed the van at the horizon.

It is, in the end, a book about coming of age at every age — and about learning to write the truest version of a thing rather than the tidiest one.

Time Like Coins

Poems

Ginninderra Press · 2018 · Paperback

Colleen’s first solo poetry collection, published by Ginninderra Press at the end of 2018 and later nominated for an Anne Elder Award.

The poems turn a patient eye on memory, loss, nature, family and ageing — on the small details that give a life its shape. There is warmth here, and honesty, and a good deal of quiet play.

Coming

Van Life Stories

Working title

New stories are taking shape on the road. Van Life Stories draws on Colleen’s travels around Australia and Tasmania: the places she has pulled up for the night, the people met along the way, the unexpected moments, and the quiet observations that live between destinations.

Life with Trevor the campervan, and Winter the greyhound, runs through all of it.

Van Life Stories is a working title. Publisher, cover and release date are still to come — the best way to hear first is to get in touch.

Crime & horror

The darker work

Alongside the poetry and the travel writing there is a steady line of crime and horror — short fiction that has been published, anthologised and adapted for audio. It is the same eye for ordinary detail, pointed somewhere colder.
